I’m just so excited that I have to share the progress made in our dining room so far!
This floor begins and ends with a HUGE thank you to Dan, his dad, and his uncle! I did nothing except to contribute the occasional ooh and aah from the kitchen as I watched our beautiful new floors take shape!
Dan and I decided to go with laminate flooring, because we wanted something durable, yet affordable…not to mention, the whole carpeted dining room felt like a red wine catastrophe waiting to happen!
After doing some price comparison, we found the best deal at Lumber Liquidators and proceeded to ‘clown car’ it with sixteen packages of flooring and underlayment in an already full Hyundai Accent.
Imagine a slightly classier version of this:
Here’s some tips that we learned in the process:
The Room Makes a Difference: Laminate flooring is perfect for our dining room; however, since it isn’t water resistant, we wouldn’t choose to use it in a basement or bathroom. Spend the time to research the pros and cons of any flooring you are planning to put down.
Prep Time is Everything: No one anticipated that pulling up the carpet would be the longest part of this project. Apparently, the builders wanted our baseboards to withstand the apocalypse, because they chose to use 4″ nails to keep those bad boys in place! Always assume a remodeling project will take 10% longer and cost 10% more than planned.
We’re planning to use the extra carpet from the dining room to carpet our basement stairs. I know, gasp! It’s completely against the current bare stairs trend! 😉
We love our new floors, and couldn’t be more appreciative of Dan’s dad and his uncle for all the work they did to install them. 🙂
