We are sharing some BIG news on the blog today! Dan and I would like to announce that we’re expecting our first child this June!
How I Found Out
I had been feeling a little off towards the end of September, and for the most part attributed it to the change of seasons, and the stress of changing jobs. Even though we were ‘planning’ to let nature take its course over 2016, I had friends who had struggled with infertility, and heard stories of it taking a while for your body to adjust after coming off birth control, so I was prepared for it to take some time. Well, nature decided that the ‘time’ was now, and only a few weeks after going off birth control, I was facing a plus sign on a pregnancy test! 🙂
How I Told Dan
In my head, I had all these adorable ‘pinteresty’ ideas to share the news for when the time came; however, when the moment actually faced me, the idea of not sharing it with Dan was immediately impossible…..so, I did the only thing that popped into my frantic head. I sent Dan a text message (who, I might add, was sitting in the next room) of the positive test with the phrase, ‘We have some news…’
Needless to say, the message was clear, and Dan came running in from the living room and said, “Well, that was fast!” haha.
Learning we were going to be parents was probably the most exciting yet overwhelming moments in our lives. I was ecstatic that it had actually happened, and then panicked that I could already be doing something wrong!…apparently, that’s pretty normal. We can’t wait to start this next big adventure!
How We Told Our Families
I was so nervous of something going wrong in those first weeks, that I didn’t want to tell anyone too early. We decided to wait until after the 12 week appointment, before we shared the news with family.
Coincidentally, the twelve week mark lined up with Thanksgiving, and Dan chose to tell his parents by giving them a card signed by the two of us, and their ‘grandchild’. They were definitely surprised and excited; however, the funniest part was that for a moment, they assumed we were referring to our dog, Walter!…Apparently, Dan and I need to reevaluate our dog ownership style, because many family friends assumed the same thing at first haha. 🙂
We told my parents on Thanksgiving morning. I created an announcements that said, ‘This Thanksgiving the turkey isn’t the only thing in the oven’, and placed them in coffee mugs that said ‘Grandma/Grandpa to be’…See, I threw some ‘pinteresty’ style in there somewhere! It was a very eventful morning. 🙂
Will We Find Out the Gender
Nope! I’ll be honest, Dan really wanted to find out, but he’s going to be trooper and wait till the big day with me. As crazy as it may sound to some people, I really want it to be a surprise. I couldn’t be more excited one way or another. Life doesn’t give you many true ‘great surprises’, so why rush one of the biggest. 🙂
Stay tuned for plenty of updates over the next few months!
